Basketball Recap: Peru Comes Up Short

Peru was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 63-37 to the Saranac Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Nighthawks have suffered against the Spartans since December 10, 2021.

Despite the loss, Peru saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gavin Sypek posted nine points and eight boards. Those eight rebounds gave Sypek a new career-high.

Saranac's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Dubay, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Armaniii Richards, who had 12 points and four steals.

Peru's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Saranac, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-8.

Peru has already played their next matchup, a 61-55 loss against Beekmantown on the 10th. As for Saranac, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-38 defeat against Franklin Academy on the 8th.
