Basketball Recap: Elm Creek Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Elm Creek came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 victory over the Overton Eagles. The Buffaloes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Elm Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Quin Oberg out in front who dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 11 rebounds, and ten steals. Oberg's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Caleb Reiter also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Elm Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Overton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Eli Luther, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Luther a new career-high. Brock McCarter was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards.

Elm Creek's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Overton, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Elm Creek has already played their next contest, a 74-46 win against Overton on the 4th. As for Overton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-35 victory against Wilcox-Hildreth on the 1st.
