Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Aquilla

While Aquilla's victory against Covington wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aquilla Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Covington Owls on Friday, sneaking past 2-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Covington's batters probably weren't too happy with Ryan Hill, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up three walks). That's the most strikeouts Hill has posted since back in February of 2024.

On the hitting side, Aquilla saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brodey Woodward, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Aquilla is undefeated when Woodward posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise.

The win was the third in a row for Aquilla, bringing their record for this year to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 1-1-1.

Coming up, Aquilla will head out to take on Bruceville-Eddy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Covington, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-0 victory against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent on the 1st.
