Preview: Pueblo South Colts vs. Pueblo County Hornets
Pueblo South and Pueblo County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Pueblo South Colts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pueblo County Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Pueblo South has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Pueblo County will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Thursday, Pueblo South came up short against Pueblo Centennial and fell 29-18.
Despite the defeat, Pueblo South had strong showings from Trista Crittenden, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Jaime Pearson, who scored no points along with six rebounds and six steals. Pearson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Meanwhile, Pueblo County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Mitchell on the road to the tune of 63-11. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Pueblo County has managed all season.
Pueblo South bumped their record down to 2-11 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.0 points per game. As for Pueblo County, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Pueblo South might still be hurting after the 48-25 loss they got from Pueblo County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pueblo County's Shannon Kushner, who scored 20 points along with two steals.
