Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Braxton Peterson and Quincy Orme Lead Deshler to Victory

Deshler had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Elm Creek Buffaloes with a sharp 50-28 victory on Thursday. Considering the Dragons have won four matchups by more than 21 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Quincy Orme and Braxton Peterson. Orme rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry while Peterson rushed for 112 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing yards Orme has posted since back in August.

Deshler was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 326 rushing yards. They rushed for 126 more rushing yards than Elm Creek's also-impressive total of 200.

Despite the loss, Elm Creek saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Keston Beavers rushed for 147 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries, and also picked up 30 receiving yards.

The win was the third in a row for Deshler, bringing their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.3 points on average over those games. As for Elm Creek, they moved to 6-3 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coming up, Deshler is taking a road trip to challenge Central Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Dragons will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Elm Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
