Football Recap: Goleman Falls Short of Palmetto in the Playoffs

Goleman and Palmetto squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Goleman had to settle for second. They lost 65-41 to the Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Panthers are ranked 38th).

Adrian Atoa and Timothy Potts certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Atoa picked up 155 receiving yards and four scores, while Potts threw for 399 yards and five touchdowns. Potts' passing game has become a key predictor of Goleman's success: the team is 5-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 3-4 otherwise.

It was another big night for Butler Aiden, who rushed for 193 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.7 yards per carry for Palmetto. Those 193 rushing yards gave Aiden a new career-high. Andre Bailey was another key player, throwing for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 17 passes.

Goleman's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Palmetto, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-2.

Goleman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Palmetto, they will face off against Vero Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Indians have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven matchups.
