Basketball Recap: American History Starts Season with Victory Against Varsity Opponent

American History gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed by Varsity Opponent to the tune of 58-20. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

American History's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominique Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Jackson a new career-high in points. Erica Lawson was another key player, putting up eight points along with ten steals and five assists.

American History smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 26 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

American History didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-11 win against Passaic Arts & Science Charter on the 20th. As for Varsity Opponent, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 42-30 victory against Millers Creek Christian on the 17th.
