Softball Recap: Piedmont Finds Home Field Redemption Against Acalanes

There's no place like home for Piedmont, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Acalanes Dons 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Highlanders have posted since March 18th.

Miya Fujimoto made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cyntiche Kouadio was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Samantha Ronen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The victory got Piedmont back to even at 6-6. As for Acalanes, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont will face off against Tennyson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.75 runs per game on average), something the Highlanders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Acalanes, they will challenge Northgate at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
