Baseball Recap: Paramus Spartans vs. Mahwah Thunderbirds
Paramus extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-10 in the process. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mahwah Thunderbirds. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 6-3 to the Thunderbirds when the teams met back in April of 2015, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Mahwah, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
For Mahwah's part, Chris Defelice looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Bobby Gourley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Mackey, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Paramus will welcome Don Bosco Prep at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Mahwah, they will head out to square off against Westwood at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Thunderbirds surely won't give up without a fight.
