2A District 8 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Commerce extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 8 this week by beating Salina, 14-6. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Colcord and Ketchum played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Colcord eventually emerging with a 26-20 victory.
Quapaw's Seth Brumley and Tyler Bacon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brumley has thrown for 1537 yards this season, while Bacon, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 52 catches for 955 yards. Parker Morgan from Commerce leads the league in rushing with 998 yards.
Bacon of the the Wildcats' is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 45 receiving yards in this week's game against the Wildcats to get there.
Morgan of the Steve Moss' team is only two yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in 2A District 8 this week will be when the Tigers take on Colcord. Commerce is in first place, while Terrill Denny's team is in third place.
Kansas made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,826 from 7,602. The improvement came about via a 48-20 victory over Wyandotte last week.
