Softball Game Preview: Garrard County Golden Lions vs. Rockcastle County Rockets

The Garrard County Golden Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Rockcastle County Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Garrard County will be strutting in after a victory while Rockcastle County will be coming in after a defeat.

Garrard County took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Berea an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Golden Lions, who have now won seven matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Emily Hounshell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hounshell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Riley Murphy was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jazlynn Shelton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Garrard County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berea only posted an OBP of .286.

Meanwhile, Rockcastle County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 9-0 to Madison Central.

Rockcastle County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12-1. As for Garrard County, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Garrard County might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Rockcastle County in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Golden Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
