Basketball Recap: Campbell County Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with East

On Saturday, Campbell County faced East in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Campbell County Camels lost to the East Thunderbirds at home by a 56-40 margin. The Camels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunderbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Loss or not, Campbell County got some senior leadership from Lauren Kuhbacher and Kaylie Neary. Kuhbacher posted eight points along with ten boards and three steals, while Neary scored 12 points. Kuhbacher is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Bella Stewart also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Campbell County's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-5. As for East, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Campbell County will head out to face off against South at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Campbell County is facing South at the right time seeing as South is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. East has already played their next contest (against Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
