Basketball Recap: Carson Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Carson can now relate to. They fell 62-50 to the Bernstein Dragons on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Colts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 822nd in California, while the Dragons are ranked 279th in California).

When it comes to explaining why Carson lost, don't look at Justin Cooper. Despite the final result, he posted 29 points. That was a full 58% of Carson's points, marking the third time in a row Cooper has scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Dixon, who put up nine points.

With the defeat, Carson broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-18. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points over those games. As for Bernstein, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-2.

Carson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bernstein, they will face off against Marquez at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bernstein knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 27 contests -- so hopefully Marquez likes a good challenge.
