Softball Game Preview: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Piedmont Community Charter Patriots

The Gaston Christian Eagles will square off against the Piedmont Community Charter Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Gaston Christian lost 15-5 to SouthLake Christian Academy. Gaston Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kenedy Miller was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Livengood, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Livengood a new career-high in doubles (two).

Meanwhile, Piedmont Community Charter came up short against Queen's Grant on Friday, falling 14-7. The Patriots have struggled against the Stallions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Evangeline East made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Julianna East, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Piedmont Community Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Gaston Christian, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gaston Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Piedmont Community Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
