Basketball Game Preview: Deltona Wolves vs. Mainland Buccaneers

Deltona is 1-9 against Mainland since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Deltona Wolves will get right back to it and host the Mainland Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mainland is hoping to do what Lyman couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Deltona's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Deltona breezed by Lyman to the tune of 56-18.

Deltona found their leader in freshman Kelsey Assent, who posted 24 points. Camora Pate was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mainland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They really took it to Cornerstone Charter Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-26 win. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Ducks are ranked 551st), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

The victory got Mainland back to even at 7-7. As for Deltona, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Deltona was taken down by Mainland 70-41 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Thankfully for Deltona, Anovia Sheals (who put up 24 points along with eight boards and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
