Baseball Recap: Vela Takes a Loss

Vela lost against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North on Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Vela Sabercats took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders. The Sabercats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

David An was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Vela saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Guevara, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Matthew Abundiz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Vela's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

Vela will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against McAllen Memorial at 7:00 p.m. Vela's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so McAllen Memorial's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they will venture away from home to square off against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North will come in with three straight wins.
