Preview: Neosho Wildcats vs. McDonald County Mustangs

Neosho is 8-2 against McDonald County since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Neosho Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the McDonald County Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Neosho is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Neosho's 19-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were the victim of a rough 78-54 defeat at the hands of Willard on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Neosho can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 369th, while Willard is ranked 55th).

Neosho's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Collier Hendricks, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Colton Southern who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kanten Smith, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.

McDonald County suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Friday. 2024 welcomed they with a 76-51 loss courtesy of Carthage. McDonald County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Neosho has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for McDonald County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Everything went Neosho's way against McDonald County in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as Neosho made off with a 61-36 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Neosho since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
