Baseball Recap: Gilroy Comes Up Short

Gilroy had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 10-8 to make it six. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Live Oak Acorns. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Acorns earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Brennan Neander led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Quezada, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Live Oak, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Live Oak's side, Spencer Westfield was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave Westfield a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Baquiran, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Coming up, Gilroy is taking a road trip to square off against Prospect at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Live Oak, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Acorns' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
