Basketball Recap: Aaron Castellon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pinecrest Prep over Bridgeprep Village Green

If Pinecrest Prep was feeling good fresh off their 87-48 takedown of Archimedean last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pinecrest Prep Crocs' fell 58-45 to the BridgePrep Village Green Bulldogs on Monday. The Crocs' haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Pinecrest Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Castellon, who posted six points along with five assists and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Castellon a new career-high in blocks (three). Andy Garcia was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead BridgePrep Village Green to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brandon Pelaez, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. Pelaez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Pedro Ferreira, who put up six points in addition to 13 rebounds and eight assists.

Pinecrest Prep's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for BridgePrep Village Green, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Pinecrest Prep won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sunset at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunset knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Pinecrest Prep likes a good challenge. BridgePrep Village Green and Somerset Academy South Homestead will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
