Softball Recap: Washington Union Finds Home Field Redemption Against Fresno

There's no place like home for Washington Union, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Fresno Warriors on Tuesday as the Washington Union Panthers made off with an 18-5 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Callie Flores was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Washington Union got a massive performance out of Zoe Freitas, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Freitas has posted since back in April of 2024. Ariana Garcia was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Washington Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fresno only posted an OBP of .250.

Washington Union's victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-1. As for Fresno, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington Union will welcome McLane at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fresno will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fresno Christian at 3:30 p.m. on March 18th.
