Recap: Our Lady of the Sun Academy vs. Verde Valley Coyotes
Our Lady of the Sun Academy's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 48-40 to Verde Valley.
Despite the loss, Our Lady of the Sun Academy still got an impressive performance from Joseph Reiss, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Reiss scored a full 55% of Our Lady of the Sun Academy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Ley , who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Verde Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angelo Ayuel, who scored 16 points. The match was Ayuel's third in a row with at least ten points. Zee Dickey was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Our Lady of the Sun Academy's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-4. As for Verde Valley, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Our Lady of the Sun Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Arrowhead Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hopefully Arrowhead Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday. As for Verde Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Tri City Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
