Softball Recap: Catholic Memorial Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Catholic Memorial ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Slinger Owls 7-6.

Ashlyn Hunt spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Catholic Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Slinger, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Catholic Memorial will host Port Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Slinger, they will head out on the road to take on Fond du Lac at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
