Baseball Recap: Neumann-Goretti Gets the Win

Neumann-Goretti came into Wednesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past the Devon Prep Tide 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Saints, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Anthony Coppola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mario Valais, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Nicky Genzano was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Neumann-Goretti now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Devon Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Coming up, Neumann-Goretti will face off against Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Saints 3.4, the Friars/Pandas 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Devon Prep, they will challenge Malvern Prep at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
