Softball Recap: Bryan's Loss Ends 15-Game Winning Streak at Home

Bryan dropped their record down to 11-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Montpelier Locomotives by a score of 2-1. The Golden Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Locomotives apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2021.

Thea Staten spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

As for Montpelier, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Montpelier's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Madelyn Hopper gave up only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kelsie Bumb, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Bryan will welcome Wauseon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Montpelier, they will take on Pettisville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
