Basketball Recap: Elm Creek Falls Short of Mccool Junction in the Playoffs

Elm Creek and McCool Junction squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Elm Creek had to settle for second. They were dealt a 65-34 loss at the hands of the McCool Junction Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Buffaloes have suffered since January 7th.

Elm Creek lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Quin Oberg, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 20 points and three steals. His big performance that morning made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Blake Erickson, who posted seven points and seven boards.

Carson Mcdonald continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for McCool Junction, dropping a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. Mcdonald is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Mapieu Kouchinin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

Elm Creek moved to 21-5 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points over those games. As for McCool Junction, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Elm Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for McCool Junction, they have already played their next contest, a 53-36 defeat against Johnson-Brock on the 14th.
