Preview: Wildwood Wildcats vs. P.K. Yonge Blue Wave

After two games on the road, Wildwood is heading back home. They will take on the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Wildwood can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They really took it to Plant for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-34 win on the road. With Wildwood ahead 39-18 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Trinidy Harris continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points along with six assists and four steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Zoey Brown, who scored eight points along with nine steals and five assists.

P.K. Yonge posted their biggest victory since November 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Vanguard with a sharp 56-32 win. Given P.K. Yonge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Vanguard is ranked 433rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

P.K. Yonge found their leader in underclassman Ashlyn Young, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Young is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Reniyah Clark was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Wildwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for P.K. Yonge, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wildwood have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like P.K. Yonge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 44.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Wildwood didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against P.K. Yonge in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win. Will Wildwood repeat their success, or does P.K. Yonge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
