Basketball Recap: Dane Beery's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kokomo Homeschool over Dasche

Kokomo HomeSchool easily dispatched St. Louis Christian HomeSchool K last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Kokomo HomeSchool Eagles fell just short of the DasCHE Spartans by a score of 71-68 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 98th in Indiana, while the Spartans are ranked 611th in Texas).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dane Beery, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 24 points and five boards. Beery's big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Maximus Hogsett was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Kokomo HomeSchool was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of 40 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

DasCHE was led to victory by Jadon Comeaux and Liam O'Grady. Comeaux shot 53% from the field to rack up 21 points, while O'Grady went 5-for-11 en route to 17 points and six rebounds. Comeaux has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Caleb Hernandez, who posted 11 points.

Kokomo HomeSchool's loss dropped their record down to 32-13. As for DasCHE, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-17.

As of now, neither Kokomo HomeSchool nor DasCHE have any future games scheduled.
