Softball Recap: Russell Comes Up Short

Russell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bozeman Hawks. The Rustlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Georgia Hatzenbeller and Kaylei Schultz-Palagi did some serious damage despite the final result: Hatzenbeller went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Schultz-Palagi went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Schultz-Palagi is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Ruby Dean was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Russell's loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Russell will challenge Gallatin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rustlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raptors have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Bozeman, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Belgrade at 3:00 p.m. on May 1.
