Basketball Recap: Gibault Catholic Takes a Loss

Gibault Catholic was the 55-42 winner over Father McGivney Catholic when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Gibault Catholic Hawks took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins on Saturday. The Hawks' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Father McGivney Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chase Jansen out in front who posted 18 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Willis, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 12 points and three steals.

Gibault Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Father McGivney Catholic, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-6.

Gibault Catholic and Father McGivney Catholic could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Gibault Catholic (ranked 484th) will meet Mater Dei (ranked 167th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Father McGivney Catholic (ranked 446th) will meet Wesclin (ranked 91st) at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
