Basketball Game Preview: Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles vs. Clarksburg Coyotes

Seneca Valley is 1-9 against Clarksburg since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles will take on the Clarksburg Coyotes at 7:15 p.m. Seneca Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.

Last Monday, Seneca Valley made easy work of Gaithersburg and carried off a 61-40 win. The Screamin' Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Teagan Phillips was her usual excellent self, going 9 of 21 to rack up 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brielle Watson, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 boards.

Seneca Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Clarksburg strolled past Quince Orchard with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 50-36. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Cougars are ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clarksburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points over those games. As for Seneca Valley, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Seneca Valley couldn't quite finish off Clarksburg when the teams last played back in January and fell 47-44. Can Seneca Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
