While Newark Valley might've come up empty on Wednesday, Gabriel Merrill wasn't going down without a fight. Merrill was dynamite, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He also tossed four walks, marking his first of the season.
