Basketball Recap: IMG Academy Black Takes a Loss

IMG Academy Black was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 79-74 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bell Creek Academy Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Ascenders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Panthers are ranked 152nd).

Bell Creek Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyrique Sartin, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 31 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sartin has scored at least a third of Bell Creek Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Payne, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards.

IMG Academy Black's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Bell Creek Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

IMG Academy Black will challenge Varsity Opponent on Friday. As for Bell Creek Academy, they will square off against Hawthorne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
