Softball Recap: Shelby Extends Road Winning Streak to Seven

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shelby). They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Marion Harding Presidents on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Whippets in their matchups with the Presidents: they've now won five in a row.

Alyssa Booker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Booker was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shelby got a massive performance out of Natalie Kennard, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. That's the most runs Kennard has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braylee Sturts, who scored four runs while going 2-for-5.

Shelby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Shelby's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Marion Harding, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Shelby will venture away from home to challenge Galion at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marion Harding, they will challenge Bellefontaine at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
