Softball Recap: Newport Greyhounds vs. Cave City Cavemen

Newport came into Wednesday's game having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victor by a 10-3 margin over the Cave City Cavemen. That's more bragging rights for Newport, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

MaKaylie Gist was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Gist has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Gist was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4.
