Baseball Game Preview: Scott County Cardinals vs. Woodford County Yellowjackets

The Scott County Cardinals will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Woodford County Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Scott County needed a bit of extra time to put away Lexington Catholic. They came out on top against the Knights by a score of 10-7. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

The team relied heavily on Garrett Sparks, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Will Rose was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Woodford County put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Henry Clay a 3-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Woodford County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonah Branham, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. The dominant performance gave Branham a new career-high in stolen bases.

Woodford County's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Scott County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
