Volleyball Recap: Eureka Wildcats vs. Howell Vikings
Eureka extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 12-11 in the process. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Howell Vikings. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Vikings when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Eureka's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carter Canby, who had seven digs and three aces, and Jackson Borgsmiller, who had seven digs and three assists.
As for Howell, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 12-13 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 29th.
Leading Howell to victory were Jackson Bradley and Austin Smith. Bradley had 11 digs and two assists, while Smith had eight digs and three aces. What's more, Smith posted five assists, the most he's had since back in April.
Coincidentally, Eureka and Howell will both be playing Edwardsville the next time they take the court. The Wildcats will head out to face the Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Vikings will play them later in the day, at 12:30 p.m.
