Softball Game Preview: Santa Fe Christian Eagles vs. Foothills Christian Knights

Santa Fe Christian has gone a perfect 7-0 against Foothills Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Eagles will challenge the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Santa Fe Christian fell victim to Escondido Charter and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Considering the last time the Eagles couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Torin Bennett was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Santa Fe Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maya Tyszkiewicz, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Foothills Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 5-1 to Coastal Academy.

Emma Romeka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks.

Foothills Christian now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Santa Fe Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Santa Fe Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Foothills Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Santa Fe Christian skirted past Foothills Christian 4-2 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
