Basketball Recap: Ponce De Leon Takes a Loss

Ponce De Leon and Holmes County squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Ponce De Leon had to settle for second. They took a 56-40 bruising from the Holmes County Blue Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-46 back in December of 2024.

Emma Whitaker was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds for Holmes County. The contest was Whitaker's seventh in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jacee Bowers, who posted ten points and four steals.

Ponce De Leon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-8 record this season. As for Holmes County, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-2.

Ponce De Leon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Holmes County, they will square off against Chipley at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chipley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
