Softball Recap: Johnson Central Golden Eagles vs. Lawrence County Bulldogs

It was a good run, but Johnson Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Lawrence County Bulldogs by a score of 10-8. Johnson Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lawrence County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Mayson Delong was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and a double. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Stambaugh, who went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

On Lawrence County's side, they got a great performance from Taylor Blevins as she struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). Blevins has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danielle Crum, who went 1-for-5 with three RBI, a triple, and a run. Hallie Adkins was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Johnson Central's defeat dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Lawrence County, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1.

Johnson Central will take on Raceland at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lawrence County, they will head out on the road to square off against Perry County Central at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Perry County Central: 3.5, Lawrence County: 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
