Recap: Vincent Memorial Scots vs. Holtville Vikings
The Vincent Memorial Scots had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They strolled past Holtville with points to spare, taking the game 67-53. Given Vincent Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while Holtville is ranked 1110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jorge Florentini continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gael Villavicencio, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Vincent Memorial's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5. As for Holtville, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vincent Memorial will take on Valley Center at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Valley Center focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. As for Holtville, they will be playing at home against Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
