Softball Recap: Marquette Redmen vs. Westwood Patriots

Marquette can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Westwood Patriots with a sharp 10-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Marquette.

Charlye Swajanen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Swajanen has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Swajanen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Cece Fuller was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ady Trapani, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Marquette's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Westwood, they haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marquette will stay at home for another game and welcome Negaunee at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marquette knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Negaunee likes a good challenge. As for Westwood, they will be playing at home against Superior Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
