Basketball Recap: East Bernard Comes Up Short

East Bernard has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Madisonville Mustangs. If the Brahmas were looking for revenge after losing 43-29 to them when the teams met on Thursday, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why East Bernard lost, don't look at Ashlynn Lemos. Despite the final result, she went 10 for 21 on her way to 24 points. Lemos is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 25 games she's played dating back to last season. Malaya Thomas was another key player, putting up six points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, East Bernard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

East Bernard's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Madisonville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

East Bernard didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-49 loss against Wharton on the 27th. As for Madisonville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Palestine at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
