Basketball Recap: Avalon's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Avalon came into Saturday's contest having lost 12 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They greeted the New Year with with a 56-39 win over the Santa Ana Valley Falcons. This was payback for the Lancers, who suffered a 39-31 loss the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Avalon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob Mello, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Erick Madriz, who posted 14 points and three steals.

Avalon's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Santa Ana Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Avalon will host Southlands Christian on Friday. Avalon is facing Southlands Christian at the right time seeing as Southlands Christian is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Santa Ana Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-52 defeat against Western on the 7th.
