League recap: Avon climbs in standings with win

Avon was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in Great Plains (9 Man). Earlier in the week, the Pirates triumphed over Scotland 60-0.

Avon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Logan Mudder threw for 19 yards and Logan Powers had 16 yards receiving. On the ground Brandon Kocmich chipped in 192 yards. Devin Tolsma helped Avon's passing attack out by catching one ball for three yards.

Jacob Knodel made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Pirates bested the Highlanders. The 6-foot-1 sophomore racked up one sack.

South Central co-op [Bonesteel-Fairfax/Burke]'s Turner Serr and Garrett Bruns have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Serr has thrown for 166 yards this season, while Bruns, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has four catches for 113 yards. Kocmich from Avon leads the league in rushing with 503 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cougars take on the Pirates. At the moment, South Central co-op [Bonesteel-Fairfax/Burke] is in third, while Avon is in second.

There should be lots of points scored when Mike Sebern's team and the Pirates face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cougars comes in having scored 142 this season, while Avon has scored 150.

Gregory led Great Plains (9 Man) in scoring this week after putting up 65 points on Marty Indian.
