Basketball Recap: Brantley County's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Brantley County hadn't done well against Pierce County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Brantley County Herons came out on top against the Pierce County Bears by a score of 57-52 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Given the Herons' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Bears are ranked 477th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brantley County's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Pierce County, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brantley County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fitzgerald at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Pierce County also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Tattnall County at 8:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
