Softball Recap: Olympia Drops Season-High Score on Normal University

Olympia extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping their season record up to 13-7-1 in the process. They blew past the Normal University Pioneers 21-6. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

As for Normal University, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

For Normal University's part, Emmerson Steward and Ava Plattner did some serious damage despite the final result: Steward went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Plattner went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Plattner's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Moody, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Coming up, Olympia will venture away from home to challenge Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Normal University, they will host Glenwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
