Recap: Oakwood Panthers vs. Avalon Eagles
It was a good run, but the Oakwood Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost to Avalon on the road by a decisive 48-31 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oakwood in their matchups with Avalon: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Oakwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacee Youngblood. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Youngblood scored a full 54.8% of Oakwood's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Avalon found their leader in underclassman Brooklyn De La Garza, who scored 27 points. De La Garza continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Haley Zaidle, who scored 14 points.
Oakwood's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Avalon, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakwood will be home for the holidays to greet Richards at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Avalon will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bynum at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Bynum is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
