Softball Game Preview: Holland Patent Golden Knights vs. New Hartford Spartans

The Holland Patent Golden Knights will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the New Hartford Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Holland Patent came into their game last Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 20-1 to Rome Free Academy. The Golden Knights haven't had much luck with the Black Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, New Hartford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Jackson, falling 7-1.

Ruby Gehringer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, New Hartford saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Way, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Way is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Taylor Scranton also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Holland Patent's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for New Hartford, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.
