Football Recap: Walsenburg Comes Up Short

Walsenburg fell victim to Las Animas and their airtight defense on Friday. They were dealt a 51-0 defeat at the hands of the Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 51-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Orion Martinez went supernova For Las Animas., rushing for 246 yards and four TDs while picking up 13.7 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Martinez has posted since back in September of 2024.

Walsenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Las Animas, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walsenburg will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rocky Ford at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for Las Animas, they will head out to face off against Soroco at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
