Baseball Recap: Hatton's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Daphne, Hatton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Clements Colts 9-7. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hornets as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Canaan Speegle made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Hatton's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't). Speegle was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Jalen Heaps was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-5. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Wes Steadman, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Hatton now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Clements, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hatton will challenge Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last five games the Wildcats have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Clements, they will square off against Wilson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Colts are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
